Mr. Channa Weragoda

Channa Weragoda is an accomplished financial professional with over seven years of experience in the Sri Lankan financial services industry. Currently serving as the Assistant General Manager at Athugala Credit, he has consistently demonstrated leadership, operational excellence, and a deep understanding of financial management throughout his career.

Channa’s journey in the finance sector began in 2016 when he joined Siyapatha Finance PLC—a fully owned subsidiary of Sampath Bank PLC—as an Operations Assistant. This entry-level role provided him with a solid foundation in financial operations and processes, setting the stage for his future growth in the industry. His strong work ethic and aptitude for learning quickly led to opportunities for advancement.

In 2018, Channa took a significant step in his career by joining Commercial Credit & Finance PLC as a Management Trainee. Over the course of a comprehensive one-year training program, he developed essential skills in leadership, management, and financial analysis. Upon completing the program, he was assigned to Branch Operations, where he worked on streamlining operations, enhancing customer service, and ensuring the efficiency of day-to-day branch functions. His contributions in this role helped optimize processes, improve the customer experience, and drive business growth.

Channa’s ability to lead and manage operations was further recognized when he was promoted to Branch Manager at Commercial Credit & Finance PLC’s Kurunegala Branch. In this capacity, he was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the branch, including managing a team, handling customer relations, driving sales initiatives, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Under his leadership, the branch experienced notable growth and improved its market position.

A graduate of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, Channa holds a BSc (Special) degree in Accountancy & Business Finance, further solidifying his technical expertise. He also completed the AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) examination and successfully passed the 4th stage of the Certified Management Accounting (CMA) qualification from the CMA Sri Lanka, enhancing his professional credentials and understanding of financial management.

Channa’s educational journey began at Mayurapada Central College, Narammala, where he excelled in both academics and extracurricular activities. His well-rounded education fostered a strong sense of leadership and discipline, qualities that have been integral to his success in the financial industry.

Today, as Assistant General Manager at Athugala Credit, Channa continues to leverage his extensive experience in branch management, financial operations, and team leadership to drive the company’s growth.
